Before talking about the weekend, some big news to report...Becky got into Wisconsin!! Yay!! And was nominated for a fellowship! Now I just need to get in there...

So this weekend was fun, despite the fact that Becky stayed at school and I stayed in Somerville.

After work Friday (and the worst traffic caused by fire-induced-road-block), I took it easy and just relaxed at home. Made some yummy pesto-cream sauce using some homemade pesto I had frozen a few months ago. Used some of the pesto to help get breadcrumbs to stick to chicken strips, too. All in all a tasty concoction. I then tried to watch this movie "Silver City" with Chris Cooper as a dimwit running for Governor in some town in Colorado. It's supposed to mock Bush I think, with a stupid politician from a well-known family and lots of business interests, but I just got bored after a while and didn't even bother finishing.

Saturday I finished my Amherst fellowship application, dropped it in the mail, then (it was already 2 by this point) set off to Providence, where I spent the day with Brian (best friend from home). Hadn't seen him in over a year or two, but it didn't seem like it at all. We can always find stuff to shoot the breeze with, like guy stuff. Ha. So we hung out at his apartment for a while, then went to Target for some fun-filled shopping adventures. Well it wasn't that exciting, but we both got some stuff we needed. After that, we got take-out from Friendly's and headed back to the apartment, where Chris (another friend from home I hadn't seen in a really long time) had just arrived. He came up for the evening to go see a band he likes with us. We caught up a bit, then drove into Providence center to this "art space" AS220, where they have bands play a lot. It's like a cool, home-grown coffee shop by day, music venue by night. They also have local artists' work featured on the walls, which is pretty cool. Oh, and a homemade disco ball made of broken shards of mirror. Tre cool. So we saw some of one band, had a beer, then decided the next band sucked so we went down the block to a real bar/brewery for another beer and some conversation. Finally headed back to the concert place to catch the main attraction--Helms. They were pretty good, described as "math rock" by Chris. Around 12:30 am, we kinda got lost in Providence a bit before finally getting on the right track back to Brian's place in North Providence. I left pretty promptly so I could sleep in my own bed. Not too many cars on the road between 1 and 2:30 am, so it was a pretty easy drive home. Got to bed pretty late, though.

Sunday--woke up around 11, had some cereal, and pretty soon headed out to Davis Square to the Someday cafe. Very cool place, as I've learned on previous occasions. I just had some coffee and read this new book I recently purchased (more on that in another post at some point). Oh, and I got a neat little button from what looked like a gum-ball machine. I guess some people from shuddemup.com make these buttons and sell them to stores and cafes to re-sell. Mine has a very basic outline drawing of a trophy with a dorky head and the label "Jerk" under it. :) It's pretty funny. Very "edgy," like if I had a beat-up shoulder bag or something it'd be great to put on it. I don't have one of those yet, so for now, it will stay in my bedroom.

So after getting coffee and waking up, I did some stuff around the apartment. Around 4, I went over to Jon and Jen's for the superbowl festivities. Lots of food, beer, etc. The homemade pulled pork with homemade bbq sauce was awesome. Homemade wings, too. And corn bread made from a Trader Joe's mix--soo good. A few friends of theirs came over, and we watched the game. A few commercials were noteworthy, like the Pepsi/iTunes ones, which Apple's marketing company handled I think. Or at least it looked like it. The FedEx one showing the 10 elements needed for a good super bowl ad was also pretty funny. Oh, and the guy working with monkeys. So funny. I want to get a picture from that and put it as my computer background.

Well, that was about it for the weekend. Just straightened up some stuff around the apartment when I got home and watched most of that preview of "American Dad" from the creators of the Family Guy. Looks just like Family Guy but with different characters., but still pretty funny making fun of the homeland security craziness and everything wrong with the country right now.

Wow, this is a monstrous post. But at least it's spared some people from hearing all of this in IMs. LOL.

Well it's 11 am, so time to start working. =]
